I’m coming to find out that being part of the community is very important when it comes to staying in the loop about what is going on around town. Not only has it been helpful in knowing what goes on in this small city, but it has helped me grow mentally, emotionally and socially as well. It’s good relating to friends who can relate to certain problems and help with the things that people go through.
Staying plugged in to what is going on in Ellis County is extremely important. It’s something I have noticed that most people don’t watch or attend ROISD School Board meetings or watch the City Council meetings. It’s crucial to know what’s going on in our back yard than what’s going on a city or a world away. What affects the city of Dallas or Dallas ISD doesn’t affect Red Oak or Ellis County. These meetings are vital for us Red Oakians to attend.
Something else that important about being part of a community is supporting our neighbors with their local businesses. I would prefer to get goods and services from someone I know over some big corporation any day. We have to stick together if we want Red Oak to prosper and grow into a community to be proud of. A lot of people are moving in from out-of-state. We need to make this community as close-knit as possible to keep our values intact.
Fellowship with one another is vital. Red Oak isn’t that big of a city and every stranger you see should be greeted with kindness and a smile. “The people of Ardent (Red Oak) have always treated me like family. Each one is willing to selflessly give their time, energy and hearts. This means a lot because my family is from Montana,” said Stephanie TeBeest of Ardent Church in Red Oak.
I have been a part of this city since I moved here in the 6th grade and I’m 31 years old now. Covid-19 has made people a little leerier of each other. Let’s bring back the friendliness of Red Oak and Ellis County and fellowship with each other again so we don’t feel so alone like we did all of last year.
