Red Oak City Council Meeting
The City Council started the meeting with highlighting the Red Oak White and Blue event that occured on June 26th of this year. July is also officially parks and recreation month. The departments had some highlights on cadets at the police academy and the new library opening. There were talks of opening a Doggie Hotel, a restaurant, and a barber shop.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mayor Stanfil was awarded with the Community Builder Award by the Masons of Texas. The Masons of Texas give two awards a year to people who aren’t masons and Dr. Stanfil had 8 nominations from members of the masonic lodge.
One of the items talked about on the agenda was the approval of a doggie hotel, which will be located off of 301 S. HWY 342 across from the 7-Eleven. The concept was thought of by Gracie Cleveland who believed it would benefit pet owners throughout the city. They approved the item 5-0. CIty Council also decided to approve opening a restaurant at 2522 W. Ovilla Road, requested by owner Ronnie Moore. His business would be in a small lot and m
ainly for take out and drive-thru orders, with limited seating inside. That item was unanimously approved. The proposal for the barber shop, requested by Benito Juarez, was approved 4-1, and will be located at 309 S. HWY 342, just a little farther north than where the doggie hotel will be.
It was reported that there was an 18.5% reduction in traffic accidents. One cadet Red Oak sent to the police academy might become valedictorian, which has never happened before. The library opened on June 21st and has been a huge success. You can go by appointment only for right now. They are doing 2 to 3 appointments a day. One of the last items talked about was how the football players want to start charging a gate fee to attend the games for the 2021-2022 school year. Right now, they are only allowed to accept donations and Red Oak is currently the only school district in the league that doesn’t charge a gate fee.
Now that activities are getting back to normal since Covid-19, life is getting back to business as usual at City Hall. New developments are being built and current businesses are seeing customers come back.
