Maston and McGuyer Auto is owned by Robert Maston who has started the process of passing the torch down to his son, Mark Maston, and nephew, Wesley McGuyer. Maston and McGuyer Auto has been here in Red Oak for about 25 years and Wesley started getting into it about 2 years ago. Wesley has been nice enough to help me on a personal level and other customers too when we have had financial hardships. All the financing done on the lots are done in-house, with McGuyer using his own money to finance the cars until they are paid for by the buyer. "Some customers have been down on their luck, and depending on the situation, I've worked with them through lowered payment plans and in some cases, have even written off the bill as paid in full," said Wesley. 

When Wesley isn't doing car sales, he is working full-time as a firefighter for the Midlothian Fire Department. He's been a firefighter for 20 years and a paid firefighter for a little over 18 years. He works 24 hours on shift and 48 hours off shift. He's able to retire in less than two years, but he's not sure if he will retire then and do car sales full-time.

There is a lot more to selling cars than just signing over the title to someone, exchanging money, and handing them the keys. You need a DBA (doing business as), which is a business license, and you need various seller licenses, depending on what motor vehicles you are trying to sell. Wesley has a salvage title seller and new car sale license to be able to sell the cars on the lot and purchase them from auctions. Then, you have to pay a fee just to attend an auction to buy vehicles for the lot. Just to go to an auction and purchase a vehicle, you have to have a dealer's license and there's an 8% fee to add to the total after purchasing the vehicle. After purchasing the automobile, he takes it to Cody at All-Pro Transmission to get it looked over and fix anything that may be wrong with it. "Cody is a great mechanic. That's why I use him and he is very reasonably priced," said McGuyer.
